STEM Challenge: Crazy Frog Tongues! 🐸 👅 I first heard of these carsondellosa STEM challenge cards from micbranton and was immediately attracted to the open-ended aspect of them. The cards are divided into earth and space, life science, and physical science categories. I asked the boys whether they’d be interested in tackling some of the challenges this week and the answer was a resounding, “YES!” We randomly selected two cards today and today they chose to do one called “Gotcha!” which challenged them to use minimal materials to create a model of a frog’s tongue that could catch paper flies. My oldest was stumped at first, but then set off on an idea after reading the hint provided that the straw could be used to roll and unroll the tongue. As I observed him at work, it became apparent that he was trying to turn it into a noisemaker! 🥳 It took a lot of patience (and tape) as he looked for holes where air was still coming out, but he eventually created enough of a seal to get the tongue to roll outward, and off he went collecting flies. 🪰 My 5.75-year-old decided after making his tongue that he would rather just create a cute frog named “Froggy.” 😊Can’t wait to see what they are challenged with next!

I will be teaching at a stem school this upcoming year, and I am so excited to implement these cards into my classroom. On one side it gives them their task and the materials that can be used, and on the back it goes over the concept but also asks STEAM related questions! They have these from preschool up!

STEM! Do you include this in your homeschooling? 💧 I admit, I haven’t been the best at implementing it in our routine! Maybe because it’s newer to me or because I’m already overwhelmed by all the other things I need to cover. So, this year I purchased this box of Stem activities from carsondellosa to try (I purchased from rainbowresource)! We will add this to our morning routine a couple of times a week. I’m hopeful we enjoy them and they help me incorporate more Stem into our homeschooling! 💧 I’ll be sure to come back with a review on these after we’ve used them multiple times. For now I can say, I love how it uses common household items for most of the challenges. I love that it comes in a nice box and the cards seem sturdy enough. I’ll also be sure to let you all know what Jam thinks of these! He’s very excited about doing these challenges. Let’s see how many drops of water he can get on that penny! 💧 How do you incorporate Stem in your homeschool?
