She can choose and pick from the things on it that are all self-directed or with which we have previously played together so she has ideas of how to play with them independently. I love our shelf because the doors close and make our kitchen/play room feel a little less #toddlerlife when I can’t take the toys everywhere for one.more.second. (Though that also eliminates it as a “true” Montessori shelf, if that matters to you.)
