Write and erase! Previously, we have played this game with numbers and letters. Now, we have begun playing with CVC words. To play, roll the picture die and write the word on the tuff tray with chalk marker. They filled the tuff tray with CVC words. Then, when the tray was full, we gave them a small container of water and paint brushes. This time, they rolled a die and searched for that word om the tuff tray. This was excellent deciding practice as they read each word looking for the one they rolled. They spent all morning writing and erasing and then washing the tuff tray so that it’s ready to play again tomorrow. 😀
We could have set up the tray with words ahead of time but we love that they did the work of writing the words too. Why do the work that the children can do themselves?

Once our kids have letter sound knowledge, making words is a fantastic activity. I like using these letters alone or putting them on the cubes to roll them and make new words. If it makes a nonsense word, that’s even better!
There are so many possibilities!
🌟Change the onset
🌟Change the vowel
🌟Work on blends
🌟Work on ending sounds
🌟Make CVC words and add the silent e to practice VCe words
🌟Say a word and let them build the word
🌟Practice open and closed syllables
The letters are Edu-Clings by carsondellosa and they are the best! You can use them on the dry erase board, table, or anywhere! There are letters, numbers, blank ones, vowels, and more.

What’s your favorite way to ✨spice up✨ centers? Mine is definitely pocket dice!
You can find the kindergarten pocket dice centers in a monthly growing bundle in my shop right now!
PS - I know your can find generic pocket dice, but I absolutely recommend buying the carsondellosa differentiated instruction cubes. They hold the cards better and last longer than any others I’ve tried.

🏆 ✂️ Cutting Challenge ✂️ 🏆
🦉 ACTIVITY 4: LITTLE OWLS COLORS 🦉
This little RACE TO CUT 🏁 cutting game was a big hit & once Ollie 🧒 figured out which side to stand on while cutting ✂️, he did surprisingly well snipping these strips!
I showed Ollie 🧒 how to play and he played independently talking 👄 to me while playing while I made dinner! He stayed occupied about 20 mins ⏰ with this! ☺️
I hung the strips up on the edge of the counter and got out our DIY Colors dice 🎲 using my carsondellosa pocket cubes! (My fav!)
Ollie 🧒 simply rolled the dice 🎲 and cut ✂️ one piece off whatever color he landed on! Easy Peasy!
He was so funny trying to predict which color would win and asking me what I thought!
Great Activity!

🌱Activity 17: FIVE & TEN FRAME COUNTING 🌱
🖐🏻 Magnetic Blocks, Toy Cars
🧰 Dice or Number Cards
Magnetic Tiles 🟥🟩🟦 are PERFECT for making 5️⃣ Frames and 🔟 Frames. Don’t miss this easy opportunity that adds a new fun 🙃element than just a paper one!
You’ll need dice 🎲 or number cards. We used my favorite carsondellosa pocket dice with the subitizing cards from my ⭐️ Numbers 1-10 Subitizing Cards ⭐️ pack in my 💚TPT Store💚 Link in Bio!
WAYS TO PLAY:
🔸Roll Dice or Draw a Card and Count the Cars onto the Five Frame
🔸Add a numeral 6️⃣ to the dice, but keep the 5️⃣ frame to really reinforce that the row is 5️⃣ The extra one if a 6️⃣is rolled will go under the first car 🚗 in the 5️⃣ frame. 5️⃣and 1️⃣more is 6️⃣! Eventually, kids will start filling the frames by memory of what each number “looks like” 👀 in the frame rather than counting each car 🚗.
🔸Make two 5️⃣ frames. Your roll and fill. Your kiddo rolls and fills. Compare your frames. Who has the most/greatest? Who has the least/fewest? Are they equal/the same? How many more to get 5/to fill it up full?
🔸Repeat the variations above with a 🔟 frame. Use ✌🏻 dice 🎲! And repeat that 11 and 12 go under the 🔟 frame to understand the concept of it being full is 🔟 and start building place value concepts of 🔟 and 1️⃣ more, 🔟 and 2️⃣ more, etc.
🔸Use the ✌🏻 dice 🎲 as SEPARATE numbers rather than counting to combine and work on addition concepts.
So many ways to use and build upon this activity developmentally!
Don’t forget- you can use ANYTHING as your counters- cars, dinosaurs, little people, littlest pet shop, McDonald’s figurines, super hero’s... ANYTHING!
It’s a great a one to play together 👩👦 but once they know ✅ the rules , it can easily be played independently! 🧍🏼♂️

🌱Activity 16: RACE TO FILL 🌱
🖐🏻 Magnetic Blocks, Rice
🧰 Dice or Number Cards, Color Dice or Cards
🏠 Tub/Tray/Bin, Measuring Spoons/Cups
We used our Rice Sensory Bin to work on a little math!
I built colored boxes 🟥🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪 with the magnetic blocks and then we used Ollie’s 🧒 color 🖍 dice 🎲 made with my fav carsondellosa pocket dice and using another pocket dice 🎲, numbers 2-5 shown different ways from my ⭐️ Numbers 1-10 Subitizing Cards ⭐️ pack in my 💚TPT Store💚 Link in Bio!
Roll BOTH dice, identify the number 🔢 & color 🔴🟠🟡 & count 👄 that many scoops 🥄 of rice 🍚 into the right colored box!
We had lots of conversations throughout about-
🔸Which color has the most?
🔸Which color has the least?
🔸Which color has none? Zero scoops?
🔸Which color do you think is going to win?
Ollie 🧒 was so funny constantly looking 👀 and comparing!
I intentionally had 3 different sized scoops but never pointed it out it said anything about it. All scoops area still smaller in size to not fill up too fast, but there was definitely one bigger than others.
As the game 🥄 🍚🟨went on, Ollie started to recognize and pay attention the size scoop. Eventually he decided he wanted green 💚 to win, so when it was green 💚, he used the biggest one and on any other color, the smallest! 😊
🟩🟢💚 Green Won if you are curious! 😉😆

🌱Activity 14: OH NO! 🌱
🖐🏻 Magnetic Blocks, Toy Cars
🧰 Dice or Number Cards
If you’ve been following lessprep_morelearning, you know this is my favorite 💚 game, has always been my students favorite 🧡game, and is definitely one of Ollie’s💙!
We used my favorite carsondellosa pocket dice with the subitizing cards from my ⭐️ Numbers 1-10 Subitizing Cards ⭐️ pack in my 💚TPT Store💚 Link in Bio!
Today we used one grid with 2️⃣0️⃣ squares and worked together to try and fill the grid before rolling OH NO! 😮 But we often play where we both have our own “grid” and it’s a race 🏁 to see who can fill it first!
Both ways are just as fun! 😃
Simple Directions-
-Put Number Cards in the Pocket Dice 🎲 or Number Cards in a baggie. Plus add and Oh No! 😮Card
-Draw/Roll 🎲 & add that many cars 🚗 to the grid. Great chance to work on left to right and 1:1 correspondence!
-If you get an Oh No! 😮you have to start all over! Ohhhhhh man!
Easy Peasy & so much fun!
We played with numbers 2️⃣-4️⃣ in different forms- numeral 2️⃣, fingers ✌🏻, and dice 🎲 patterns. We also played with the other dice that has all finger patterns!
Don’t miss this fun game! It’s a great a one to play together 👩👦 but once they know ✅ the rules , it can easily be played independently! 🧍🏼♂️

DIY Fine Motor Cube ✨
This sticky notes cube activity is an extension of a couple of different activities that they have been enjoying over the last few weeks:
🤚🏾 It is a variation of a tape pulling activity, where he pulled tape off a wall going in only one direction. This activity challenges him to pull sticky notes that are facing different directions off a cube.
👶🏽 The pictures selected for this activity are inspired by his enjoyment of our familiar faces puzzle and our books featuring real photographs of other babies, and by the delight in seeing their own face in the mirror.
👐🏼 Placing the pictures on a cube challenges them to work with both hands together. They can use one hand to hold and turn the cube while using the other hand to pull the sticky notes off. Using opposite sides of the body together will help strengthen the connection between the two hemisphere of the brain.
You can modify this activity to be less challenging by putting the pictures on a wall or flat surface instead of a cube, allowing your little one to simply focus on work of taking off the sticky notes. You can also modify it to be more challenging by having multiple sticky notes pieced together to cover one picture, or applying Velcro to make the pieces harder to peel off.

Day 3 (Activity/Material for Fine Motor): Sticky Notes Cube 👶🏻👶🏼👶🏽👶🏾👶🏿
#littlemontessorimovers
Movement—both big and small—is at the very core of the Montessori Method. Maria Montessori observed that movement enhances learning, and “what the hand does, the mind remembers”.
For this reason I’ve been carefully observing Mr Nine Month Old’s fine motor development, looking to see what new skills he is working and finding new ways for him to practice and build upon those skills. This sticky notes cube activity is an extension of a couple of different activities that he’s been enjoying over the last few weeks:
🤚🏾 It is a variation of a tape pulling activity, where he pulled tape off a wall going in only one direction. This activity challenges him to pull sticky notes that are facing different directions off a cube.
👶🏽 The pictures selected for this activity are inspired by his enjoyment of our familiar faces puzzle and our books featuring real photographs of other babies, and by his delight in seeing his own face in the mirror.
👐🏼 Placing the pictures on a cube challenges him to work with both hands together, as he has been doing with his egg/cup and ball/cup “puzzles”. He can use one hand to hold and turn the cube while using the other hand to pull the sticky notes off.
Supervision is advised for this activity.

🌱Activity 18: Colorforms Counting🌱
🖐🏻 Colorforms
🧰 Dice &/Or Number Cards
Colorforms are perfect for some fun counting 👆🏻practice!
You can do this activity a variety of ways:
1️⃣- Say a number & your kiddo counts the Colorforms onto their mat
2️⃣- Put a group of Colorforms out and your kiddo counts them onto their mat
3️⃣- Roll a Dice & your kiddo counts that many onto their mat (Extend by both doing it and comparing who has more/less, greater/fewer)
4️⃣- Draw a Card & your kiddo counts that many into their mat (Extend by both doing it and comparing who has more/less, greater/fewer)
5️⃣- Add the Oh No! Card to the dice/card stack, roll or draw and count that many into the mat. Try to get them all on there before rolling Oh No! and having to clear the board!
We did 1️⃣, 2️⃣, 3️⃣, & 5️⃣ and Ollie 🧒 loved ❤️ and stayed engaged all four ways!
Oh No is of course ALWAYS the big hit! 😉
We used the ⭐️ Numbers 1-10 Subitizing Cards ⭐️ from my 💚TPT Store💚 (Link in Bio). We’ve been working on recognizing numbers on our fingers! We put the cards in my favorite pocket dice from carsondellosa!
There’s value in the different versions as they work on counting 👉🏻 in different ways.
As a former Kinder teacher 👩🏫 , it was always amazing how you could test a student on their numbers and counting 👈🏻 and get different results different ways.
For Example:
🔹 Show a Flashcard of Number 7
🔹 Say “Write the Number 7”
🔹 Say “Make a set of 7”
🔹 Say “Look at my set. How many are there?”
They might get 2 or 3 of them correct ✅ and miss ❌ the others. Working on numbers and counting in a variety of ways is critical to truly developing numeracy 🔢
